Lacy Underalls. One of greatest character names in cinema history. She was the gorgeous, upper east side nightmare that wooed Ty Webb in the epic comedy, “Caddyshack”. I loved her only because she got to make out with the first love of my life, Chevy Chase. When I saw him dive into that pool with Christie Brinkley in “Vacation”, I knew I wanted to be her and marry him. And I was only 8. He pretty much became the standard for me to gauge all the men who entered my world from then on. And it was a pretty high bar he set. Everyone had to be funny, funny, funny.
My crushes ranged from Jack Tripper on “Three’s Company” to Bill Murray to Steve Martin. Pretty interesting taste for a 10 year old. My mom thought I was insane to like only funny men, “why not that gorgeous guy?” me – “ugh, so boring. I want the guy that’s gonna do a hand stand in the middle of the party just because”. It’s not always an easy thing to find, but its worth waiting for. So here’s to Chevy! Now, I just have to save up for that red Ferrari, get myself a white shirt dress and head cross country.
xoxo, Alex

Building Pieces That Last
Over the years I have stopped chasing trends and started investing in pieces that work hard. A few beautifully made foundations quietly elevate everything you layer on top, and they are worth every penny because you reach for them constantly. The best wardrobe upgrades are often the ones no one else even sees.
Fit is everything. A piece that fits properly looks more expensive than something flashy that does not, and it makes you feel put-together the second you put it on.
Caring for the Good Stuff
Nice things deserve a little care, and a small amount of effort makes them last for years. I wash delicates by hand, store them properly, and resist the temptation to throw everything in the dryer. It sounds fussy, but it is the difference between replacing pieces every season and keeping favorites for ages.
Buy a little less, buy a little better, and take care of what you have. It is gentler on your closet, your wallet, and the planet all at once.
